Ashley Fife To Participate In Forums In Italy

November 8, 2016

Appleby Senior Associate Ashley Fife will be attending the Legal Week International Private Client Forum 2016 in Lake Como, Italy on 10–12 November, and then will be speaking at a STEP Italy meeting in Milan on 14 November.

“Legal Week International Private Client Forum is a world-class event uniting the most senior and elite client advisors to high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals to discuss the most timely and concerning issues. The forum continues to develop their prestige by growing their international program. This year 40+ speakers from 12 prominent jurisdictions will be featured,” Appleby said.

“Following his participation in the Legal Week International Private Client Forum, Mr Fife will be presenting to members of STEP Italy at the Focus of Trusts & Wealth Management Journal 2016 meeting which is being held in Milan, Italy on 14 November.

“The Focus of Trusts & Wealth Management Journal meeting is held in collaboration with STEP Italy and is an elite forum devoted exclusively to original research and practical guidance for high-net-worth investors and family offices.

“Mr Fife will be addressing the group regarding firewall legislation in offshore common law jurisdictions. Firewall legislation aims to restrict the circumstances in which claimants can enforce foreign law rights and judgments against trustees. These rights may include, for example, forced heirship rights, community property rights or foreign divorce judgments.

Mr Fife, whose practice focuses on private and commercial trusts with a particular emphasis on family office structures, added, “I am excited to be representing Appleby at the International Private Client Forum and it is an honour to be speaking at the STEP Italy meeting.

“Bermuda excels in the offshore private client and trust industry and is ideally placed to provide services that facilitate the planning and investment objectives of high net worth families and entrepreneurs who are globally mobile. I look forward to presenting on a topic that continues to gain relevance as more and more people with connections in civil law jurisdictions and emerging economies choose to utilise the flexible trust structure for succession planning.”
