Court: Woman Pleads Guilty To Assaulting Police

Appearing in Magistrates Court, a 28-year-old woman was fined $3,800 after pleading guilty to offences including assaulting police.

Ms Lakeva Camara was convicted of assaulting police and causing them bodily harm, resisting arrest and of behaving so as to cause a breach of the peace.

All offences took place on Front Street on the night of 19th November. During a struggle with Police, Ms Camara fell to the ground with a policewoman under her.

When asked to explain her behavior, Ms Camara told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo: “To be honest, I do not remember anything.”

The Magistrate commented that Ms Camara’s record showed a history of behaving in a certain manner.

The Magistrate fined her $1,000 on each of the assault charges, $500 for her breach of the peace, and $300 for violently resisting arrest, for a total of $3,800.
