November 7, 2016

Matthew Oliveira lapped the complete field in division A of the Flying Colours Mountain Bike Race Series, presented by Beck’s Beer and Furniture Walk, ending in victory after he completed 12 laps around the newly designed Arboretum course.

The new course includes new turns and an optional two foot drop off for the riders who wanted to gain a vital second or two over their competitors. Following behind Mr. Oliveira was Chequan Richardson, and rounding out the top three was Adam Kirk, fresh off his division B road season winning title.

Alyssa Rowse was the only female A competitor in the race, completing 9 laps in a time of 53:07.911.

The male Veteran division is tightly contested, with all four of its racers finishing within three minutes of each other; Andrew Hern took first place, Charles Swart came in second, and Padraic Brown was third.

Female Veterans Karen Smith and Sarah Bonnett battled it out on the course, with Karen Smith taking top honours and Sarah Bonnett following just behind her in second place.

The male B division saw Revelin Minihane lapping the field and finishing in first, Brian Steinhoff taking second, and Jenai Robinson taking third place.

There were only two females racing in the B division, with Tristan Narraway taking first and Zina Jones finishing in second.

The top three places in the Novice class were Garth Fleming in first place, Andrew Packwood in second place and Wendell Burrows in third place.

The female Novice division saw the win go to Wenda Roberts, with Caitlin Conyers and Belinda Castree crossing the finish line together in second after battling throughout the entire race.

In the 13-15 division, Mr. Oliveira’s younger brother Blake Oliveira took first place, Tommy Marshall took second place, and Liam Flannery came in third.

The Flying Colours Mountain Bike Race Series will continue at Lodge Point Park [Lagoon Park] in the west end on November 20.
