November 25, 2016

[Updated] Locals lined up in Hamilton early this morning [Nov 25] to take advantage of Black Friday specials being offered by various stores, some of which opened as early as 4.00am with lines of people waiting outside. Businesses including One Communications, Annex Toys, Brown & Co, the Phoenix, P Tech, Gibbons Company, Audio Visual and A.S. Coopers all opened early, and are offering substantial discounts on their products today. Some stores also welcomed early morning shoppers with music and refreshments.

Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day in the United States and traditionally the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. The Black Friday sales have been taking place for years in the US, and started in earnest in Bermuda back in 2011, which saw very long lines at various stores.

Update: One Communications said, “There was a lineup outside our Church Street store this morning, in time for our 5AM opening. Since then we’ve had a steady stream of customers. Shoppers are loving both the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy specials we’re offering.

“Since this is the first Friday for late night shopping, we’ll be open in town till 8pm. For customers on the east and west ends of the island, our St. George’s and Heron Bay locations are open during regular business hours to provide them with the same great deals.”
