20 Games Set For BSSF Football Championships

Twenty games will be played in the space of two days to determine the 2016 BSSF Football Champions in eight different divisions. The semifinals will be held on Friday at the National Sports Centre North Field and the BFA field, while all the finals will be held on Saturday at the National Sports Centre North Field.

Primary School Girls –

  • Saltus Grammar School vs West End Primary – 2:00 NSC North Field
  • Warwick Academy vs Harrington Sound – 2:00 NSC North Field

West End will go into the semifinals as slight favorites to win the Primary School girls title. West End won the west zone without losing a match. They also won the Primary six girls seven a side tournament undefeated. The will face Saltus Grammar School in the semifinal who is a perennial powerhouse in primary girls football.

Warwick Academy won the Central zone and they will feel confident going into the playoffs after giving West End all they can handle in an agonizingly close loss to West end in the seven a side tournament. Harrington Sound have also been undefeated in zone play.

Middle School Boys Under 13 –

  • Saltus Grammar School vs Warwick Academy – 2:00 NSC North Field
  • Whitney Institute vs Dellwood Middle School – 2:00 – BFA Field

Defending Champions Saltus Grammar School will have their hands full in their quest to retain the cup. They will take on an equally talented and organized team in Warwick Academy. Saltus received a forfeit victory in the quarter final while Warwick edged by Sandys 1-0 in their quarter final thanks the an Aunde Todd strike.

Dellwood Middle School defeated Clearwater Middle School 4-0 on their way to the semifinal. Dellwood got goals from Camaje Easton-Smith, Ahtyo Burgess, Jahkai Thomas and Aquaei Richardson. They will face Whitney Institute who defeated Somersfield Academy 3-0. Dante Scraders scored twice for the winners with David Blankendal scoring as well.

Middle School Girls –

  • T.N.Tatem Middle School vs Warwick Academy – 3:30 NSC North Field
  • Saltus Grammar School vs Whitney Institute – 3:30 NSC North Field

T.N.Tatem finished the regular season winning each match in comfortable fashion and want to add the knockout cup to their league and six a side cup collection. They received a bye into the semifinal and will take on a vastly improving Warwick Academy team.

Warwick defeated Dellwood Middle School 3-0 in the quarter finals with goals from Marion Chevereau, Kree Musson and Tayla Horan. Saltus have featured in the last four middle school girls finals having suffered their only defeat at the hands of Tatem in last year’s final. They look to rebound and reach the final again but face Whitney Institute in the semifinal first. Saltus easily won their quarterfinal with a 6-0 victory over Clearwater Middle School.

Saltus got two goals each from Jailyn Boddington and Emily Hartwig with single strikes from Caroline Driscoll and Jade Johnston. Whitney defeated Bermuda High School in their match 3-1. Stefanie Francis twice for the winners along with Jahni Simmons. Katelyn Madeiros scored the lone goal for BHS

Middle School Over 13 Boys

  • Saltus Grammar School vs Warwick Academy – 3:30 NSC North Field
  • Whitney Institute vs Sandys Secondary Middle School – 3:30 BFA Field

Defending Champions Whitney Institute will tackle Sandys Secondary Middle School in the semifinals of the over 13 division. They will face Sandys who defeated T.N.Tatem Middle school 4-2 in the quarter finals. Kymanai McNeil led the charge with two goals. Sandys also got goals from, Sijay Samuels and Daimori Tucker.

There will be a repeat of the under 13 semifinal when Saltus takes on Warwick Academy in the over 13 semifinal as well. Six a side champions Saltus look reach the final for the second year running. Saltus defeated Clearwater Middle School 1-0 with an Evan Washington goal. Warwick needed a penalty shootout to finally defeat Dellwood Middle School after the game ended in a 2-2 draw. Dylan Craft scored twice for Warwick while Amir Dill and Deniko Hardy scored replied for Dellwood.

Primary School Boys

  • Saltus Grammar School vs St. George’s Preparatory – 5:00 NSC North Field
  • Somersfield Academy vs Somerset Primary – 5:00 NSC North Field

All four zones will be represented in the semifinals as all four zone winners have advanced to Friday’s matches. Saltus. St. George’s and Somersfield all return to the semifinal stage for the third consecutive year with Somersfield Academy winning the last two championships. The six a side champions defeated Harrington Sound 4-0 to reach the final with goals from Rhys Insley, Ayden Gardener, Rajun Cox, Malachai Belboda. Somerset Primary defeated Warwick Academy in what was easily the match of the tournament so far. Somerset rallied late in the match to salvage a 5-5 draw after being down 5-2 with ten minutes remaining. Two goals from Patrick Dill and one each from Josiah Bento,

Kia Sampson and Jaelyn Grant earned Somerset Primary a penalty shootout. They carried the momentum of their late game heroics into the shootout to knock out stunned Warwick team. Ahri Daniels scored a hat trick to lift St. George’s Preparatory to a 5-2 win over Victor Scott Primary. Jannis Roberts and Brandon Burrows added goals for the East Enders while Shaezi Smith scored both for Victor Scott. Saltus were the big winners in the quester finals defeating Port Royal 8-1. Sacheil Ming led the way with a hat trick while Nathan Dacosta, Cooper Mcguire, sebestian Smith and Ryan McDowell added a goal each

Senior School Girls

  • CedarBridge Academy vs The Berkeley Institute – 5:00 NSC North Field

Defending champions CedarBridge Academy will face The Berkeley Institute in a repeat of last year’s final. Both teams feature many National under 17 and 20 players and a tight match is expected to determine who will face Saltus Grammar School in the final.

CedarBridge edged past Berkeley during the league after Symira Lowe-Darrell scored the only goal in a tight contest. Saltus already reached the final after defeating Bermuda high School 4-2. Zakiyah Durham and Lauren Garvin each scored twice for the league Champions. The match was played early due to conflicts with a BHS school function. BHS had to overcome Warwick Academy in a playoff 4-1 to earn a spot in the semifinal. Lauren Way and Shelby Swan each scored two in the victory. Sofia Welmer scored the consolation goal for Warwick Academy

Senior School Boys

  • Berkeley Institute vs Warwick Academy – 6:45 – NSC North Field
  • CedarBridge Academy vs Saltus Grammar School – 6:45 – NSC North Field

The Berkeley Institute and Saltus Grammar School earned byes to the semifinals in the Senior School over 16 division. The Berkeley institute drew their final match of the season with CedarBridge Academy to secure first place in the league. Saltus Grammar school finished in second place earning the other bye. The Berkeley Institute will take on Warwick Academy in the semifinal. Saltus and CedarBridge will face off in the other semifinal. The last time both teams met Saltus edged past CedarBridge 6-5 in a high scoring affair.
