It would be good to have a live debate by both the PLP, OBA and other interested parties on this. Maybe then everyone can make an informed decision.

    • jt says:

      Parliamentary debates are broadcast live.

      • Hope says:

Yes of course. I just meant ahead of the actual parliamentary debate, by just a couple of representatives, where they are trying to win over the public, not the MPs.

        • ReaLLyReally Bettty says:

The Brilliance of Burt. ……excellent interview. ..

      • ken says:

yes they sure are when the plp/biu lets them happen, unfortunately they illegally blocked the gates to the parliament so that the debates could not happen…..Aecon,just remember that this airport project will take 4 yrs to complete, come next December, you might be stuck with working with a plp/biu government!
Since the oba were forced to put off this debate until February and have broken their agreement with you to get this deal signed before the 15th of december…..take this opportunity to cancel this contract, collect your 18 million that you have already spent in designing and all other works…..and run away from this deal now….before the plp/biu get back into power and move the goal posts on your company.
just look at their business history and learn from others that have done business deals and ended in courts……run Aecon run

    • de fence says:

      Exactly!
Hey, how about a debate in the House of Assembly, there’s a novel idea.

    • Serengeti says:

Yes. Kind of like they tried to do last Friday.

    • Onion says:

There would have been on Friday.

    • frank says:

      this was a good interview

  2. watching says:

Very good interview by the Opp leader.
I enjoyed the chatter between the two and it was clear that Mr. Deacon was unafraid to ask the hard questions, and Mr. Burt was unafraid to answer them.
This was clearly not a staged interview like many others we have seen.
    Was refreshing to watch.

  3. Real Deal says:

Ahh Saltus so that’s what it was. There was always something about his vibe that I could not related to but could not put my finger on. I relate to Bean more not sure what school he went to Public school. i feel public school gives your a different out look on life and a different vibe. well it is cool he is a coder because coders are great problem solvers and they all so care about all users of a solution not just one set of users.

  4. Real Deal says:

Wow Burt is smart af. He knows what he is talking about. All that was off the top of his head.

  5. Justin says:

I agree with David Burt on social issues but when it comes to simple finance and economics he is clueless.

He doesn’t seem to understand that without money he can’t achieve his social agenda. Therefore, and it may sound crude, money must come before social programs. Let’s get this island back to budget surpluses before spending money on social programs!

    • rightt says:

Social problems could impact IB and tourism as well which can impact the money. Everything is connected.

    • Real Deal says:

I think you are fooling yourself. financial math is nothing but peanuts compared to the other types of math coders deal with and excel in.

  6. Average Bermudian says:

Before PLP – it was all balanced budgets but no social programs. PLP spent $ on social programs (some of which the COI is looking into – heritage wharf, police HQ, fast ferries, seniors homes upgrades)

Justin say no more spending on social programs or on the people.

The people are crying out even louder now for social assistance – jobs etc.

  7. Bullseye says:

A more stable Bermuda will be a more prosperous Bermuda. The PLP whilst in Opposition thrives on instability for it’s own political purposes but it is seriously damaging Bermuda on both a social and business level. Everyone has been agitated and angry. You say “Good morning” and may get a skeptical look now.
This is the “Two Bermuda’s” the PLP has coined and has manufactured. They repeat it everywhere like putting miracle-gro on weeds. It is incredibly destructive but they don’t care as long as they get back in (to accomplish all the things they didnt do last time but are sure to do now with no plan).
The divisiveness and bitterness needs to stop to move the island forward. They are hurting the people, and the damage will permanent.

    • rightt says:

OBA created two Bermudas by only focusing on a certain demographic which doesn’t include me.

      • Ringmaster says:

The PLP created the so called two Bermudas by crippling the Island with debt so social agendas cannot now be paid for. $150 million is paid every year to foreign banks just on interest. Think how that could be put to good use now. That is what the OBA is trying to control. The OBA has been trying for four years to control the mess left behind. If the PLP are re-elected next year, they will have the same issues, except they don’t have the financial knowledge to help the very Bermudians who will vote them in. Their plan is called Vision 2025 – nine years away. Can Bermudians wait that long?

      • wahoo says:

You have no proof of this. The OBA is a more diverse group than the PLP. Your comment sounds like an uncreative plp propaganda flyer.

      • Bullseye says:

That is a lie perpetrated by the PLP. If you believe that investing in international business is not good for Bermuda, and therefore you, then they have tricked you into thinking that as well. The PLP has convinced you that you are not wanted or cared for and that is a like saying Mommy doesnt love me because she is always at work. Mommy is trying to put a roof over your head. In magical PLP world money just appears and everything is taken care of and there will always be someone there to change your diaper and wipe your nose for you. That isnt how the world works and you need to take a close look at exactly what situation Bermuda is in and how to make it better before crying that no one is directly putting money in your pocket. The PLP won’t do that for you either, but they will make you bitter and make you point fingers so that you will vote for them. The OBA is trying to create opportunites and manage a terrible budget constraint and keep a huge civil service employed. It is not an easy task and the PLP seeks to make it harder at every turn solely for political gain and at the dire risk to Bermuda and Bermudians.

  8. Takbir Karriem Sharrieff says:

Collectively ,,,,,,Bermudians are intelligent,,,,wise, resourceful, and capable,,,,of solving most problems except one,,,,they are fiercely jealous of each other.White and/or black…..It seems because they know each other one should not let the other get too far ahead of the rest.It is a sickness that we all need to address…There will always rise out of the pack,,,one that will forge ahead of the others ,,,we should applaud that one and not try always to pull that one down or back, whether it be a man ,woman or child.Even in families,,,,..I call it the Bermuda Rock Syndrome,,,,.!Lets work on it together and stop being in denial.Maybe you can give me some answers to help me out with this problem,,,,,sincerely….Peace.

  9. CPM says:

How did Furbert [biu] get to run our island affairs-”This bill will never pass’
and we will make sure of it
So we have postponed civil disturbance/general strike until February
People, you are as well giving up on any benefits from A/C because it’s already being destroyed
    Thanks plp/ biu

  10. aceboy says:

You cannot grow an economy based on social welfare. It is doomed to fail. Spending with no return is a sure road to bankruptcy. It all sounds good but the playing field leveling that apparently was the cause of all the cost overruns in PLP capital projects was clearly a dismal failure based upon how upset many PLP supporters are that government is not handing out cash instead of trying to build the economy.
