February 26, 2017

Bermuda’s golf tourism product is getting a boost with six visitor golf events over the next six weeks, the Bermuda Tourism Authority said.

The events are supported by the BTA sales and marketing efforts as part of an overall sports tourism strategy to grow golf from November through March, also known as the shoulder season.

“Golf is one of the tools we use to attract volume at a time of year we need additional leisure traveller business,” said Andrew Brooks, director of golf sales and marketing for the BTA. “Golf is effective in that way because it’s a year-round activity in Bermuda.”

The six-week stretch begins with the fifth Hacker’s Cup today [Feb 26] and ends with a Bermuda Golf Classic event, which starts March 31st.

In the Hacker’s Cup, journalists and celebrities from the United States and United Kingdom square off in a friendly golf competition to generate editorial coverage about Bermuda and its winter months golf across multiple media platforms.

Cambridge Beaches Resort, Fairmont Southampton, British Airways, Goslings, Dunkley’s and Port Royal, Mid Ocean and Turtle Hill Golf Clubs are among the BTA’s partners to put on the event.

“The NFL Players Championship, part of the Bermuda Golf Classic at the end of March, is similarly a media-generating event, attracting former pro athletes from the National Football League,” the BTA said.

“Visitors and residents can register to play alongside former NFL greats like Billy Joe Tolliver, Lawrence Taylor and Jerry Rice who have all participated in Bermuda Golf Classic events in years past.

“In addition to the aforementioned events the BTA will also welcome these golf events and groups over the next six weeks:
