Tanker Diverts To Bermuda, Sick Crew Member

A Liberian-flagged oil tanker ship recently diverted to Bermuda to disembark a Russian crew member suffering from a suspected hernia.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “On Saturday, February 4 at 11:19am, RCC Bermuda receives a call from the Captain of the Liberian flagged Oil Tanker, ‘Tower Bridge’, advising that vessel was diverting to Bermuda to land a Russian crew member, suffering from a suspected Hernia.

“The 27705 GRT, 182 meter long vessel had initially departed Port Arthur, Texas, with 25 persons onboard, bound for FOS, France. Logistics were put in place including appointment of local shipping agent; arrangement of ambulance and attendance on scene by Pilot/Rescue boat St George.

“Around 5pm, Saturday afternoon, the transfer was successfully completed with patient taken ashore by pilot boat St. George and subsequently by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.”
