This week’s ‘Minute with Mikaela’ highlights the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup that will take place during the 35th America’s Cup.

During the Minute, Mikaela Pearman said, “We keep hearing about the six teams in the 35th America’s Cup, but did you know there’s a youth regatta as well that Bermuda will be competing in? That’s right.

“The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup takes place during AC35. It’s a competition featuring the best youth sailors in the world.

“Introduced in 2013 to identify outstanding sailing talent and provide a potential pathway to an America’s Cup career, the teams actually sail in the same AC45s used in the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series.

“Each America’s Cup team has a youth team, and six addition teams of sailors age 19-25 have qualified to compete after extensive trials.

“Over 20 teams registered for the selection process. The final teams are from Austria, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, and USA.

“All of the America’s Cup affiliated teams are from countries they represent, aside from team BDA, who’s being mentored by Oracle Team USA. OTUSA will also mentor the USA’s youth team.

“The Red Bull America’s Cup is June 12-16, followed by the finals, scheduled for June 20-21.”
