TechTalk On “Internet Of Things” On March 30

March 26, 2017

The Department of E-Commerce will be holding a TechTalk panel discussion on ‘Internet of Things’ on March 30th at the Hamilton Princess.

The panel will consist of Chris Eaton, Senior Manager – KPMG; Ian Burns, Performance Manager – Oracle Team USA; Nik Smale, Group Head of Innovation and Technology – Argus Ltd.; and Pete Ramsdale, Group Chief Information Officer – Enstar.

The event poster says, “The “Internet of Things” [IoT] is an emerging topic of technical, social and economic significance. It’s a concept that not only has the potential to impact how we live but also how we work. But what exactly is it and what impact is it going to have on you, if any?

“Simply put, it is the concept of connecting everyday devices to the Internet [and/or to each other], letting them talk to us, applications, and each other. So it’s a building that uses sensors to automatically adjust heating and lighting. Or production equipment alerting maintenance personnel to an impending failure.

“It’s not hard to see how and why the IoT is such a hot topic; it certainly opens the door to a lot of opportunities to make our lives more efficient but has also given rise to challenges including storage issues and privacy concerns.”
