America’s Cup At St. George’s Marine Expo

America’s Cup has a full slate of activities planned for this Sunday’s [April 23] St. George’s Marine Expo, taking place in the St. George’s Town Square from 11.00am.

A spokesperson said, “For the second year running, the America’s Cup has a full slate of activities planned for this Sunday’s St. George’s Marine Expo, taking place in the St. George’s Town Square from 11.00am.

“America’s Cup sailor autographs

“The public can look forward to watching America’s Cup sailors take part in a mini regatta using America’s Cup Endeavour Program boats, and they’ll be on hand for signing autographs at the America’s Cup Endeavour Program tent.

“Beforehand, the America’s Cup Endeavour Program will offer taster sessions on the water for children from 11:00 am – 2:30 pm. It is a great opportunity to learn about the program and to experience sailing for the first time. Each taster session lasts 30 minutes and is suitable for ages 6 and up.

“Support TeamBDA

“From 11:00 am – 2:00 pm, Bermuda’s home team in the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup, TeamBDA will be making an appearance. Come and meet the first Bermuda team to compete in the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup! They will answer your questions about their journey, sailing experience and snap a selfie with a TeamBDA sailor. A free public screening of three TeamBDA videos will be shown in the Town Hall. They tell the inspiring stories of the trailblazing team members. Come by and show your support for our own TeamBDA.

“Buy America’s Cup tickets

“The America’s Cup tent will be selling tickets with a Ptix representative on hand to assist ticket buyers with the various ticketing options. Take advantage of the local discount code! Also ask about the dedicated America’s Cup Village ferry and other transportation options.

“Community Grinding Challenge

“Take part in the America’s Cup Community Grinding Challenge from 12 noon until 3.00pm. Experience what it is like to be a grinder on an America’s Cup sailing team and test your fitness.

“This Sunday is the first opportunity for the public to participate in the Community Grinding Challenge. The grinder machine captures and logs all data generated by each user. It captures the amount of spins or rounds per minute and the energy that´s being generated, giving readouts so that users can set themselves against each other, and measure their output levels.

“Each participant will be on the machine between 10 and 20 seconds and the resistance of the grinder will change for each age group. Participants are allowed one try on the grinder per event but can enter the competition at as many events they wish.

“The Challenge places participants in the following categories:

  • Male and Female Students [14-18]
  • Male and Female Open [18-39]
  • Male and Female Masters [40-49]
  • Male and Female Senior Masters [50-59]
  • Male and Female Grand Masters [60+]

“The top three entrants with the best output numbers in each category will be invited to participate in the finals on the main stage of the America’s Cup Village, where a winner for each category will be crowned.”
