OBA Chairperson On International Labour Day

“My colleagues and I in the One Bermuda Alliance take pride in the accomplishments of people here and elsewhere in the world in fighting for human and workers’ rights,” OBA Chairperson Senator Lynne Woolridge said today.

Senator Woolridge said, “Today is the day many countries around the world celebrate International Labour Day, a day on which to mark the huge contribution labour has made to the betterment of humankind and to the success of the world’s nations.

“My colleagues and I in the One Bermuda Alliance take pride in the accomplishments of people here and elsewhere in the world in fighting for human and workers’ rights. This Government has worked to arrest the debt and restore the financial stability of the island, understanding that an insolvent country is a disaster for us all.

“Glenn Fubler’s article appropriately recalled the Rev Dr Martin Luther King’s reflection in a Christmas Day, 1967, sermon to his congregation, that we are all of us caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied to a single garment of destiny.

“Rev King had concluded that the interconnected nature of society meant that any transformative effort must avoid the trap of “us and them”, recognising that it’s all about “we”. Who can deny that truth?”
