‘Memories’ Reggae Party Set For May 20th

May 15, 2017

One Love Promotions, Snorkel Park, and Animal Productions will be presenting Memories, an 80s and 90s old school reggae party featuring Downbeat the Ruler and Stone Love Movement, on Saturday, May 20 from 9.00pm to 3.00am at Snorkel Park.

A spokesperson said, “International old school explosion featuring two of the biggest sounds in the dancehall arena.

“One Love Promotions, Snorkel Park & Animal Productions present: Memories – 80’s / 90’s old school reggae party featuring: Downbeat the Ruler with legendary selector Tony Screw aka Goldfinger out of New York City, and Stone Love Movement with veteran selector Geefus from Jamaica.

“Both sounds systems are celebrating 45 years in the business and are looking forward to entertaining the crowd with endless hits of yester years.

“Downbeats – Tony Screw is excited about returning to Bermuda as he really likes and appreciates our love for dancehall reggae. He promises not to disappoint the party goers as he has a deep “dub box” full of original dub plates, “exclusive recordings”, for which he wants to show off to the massive.

“Downbeat prides itself on being the Original foundation sound and during the 1980’s known as the “rub-a-dub” era they worked with the biggest names in the business, such as Brigadier Jerry, Josey Wales, Charlie Chaplin, Super Cat, Shabba Ranks, Lone Ranger, Nicodemus, Early B, Jim Brown, Johnny Osbourne, Ninjaman, Papa San, Lieutenant Stichie, Professor Nuts, Wolfman, Peter Metro, Ricky Sterio, Colin Roach, Major Mackerel, Michigan and Smiley, Sugar Minott, Eek-a-Mouse, and many more.

“Downbeat also provided exposure for New York’s local artists, some of whom went on to achieve worldwide recognition. The core of the Downbeat crew included Shinehead, Louie Ranking, Sister Carol and Santa Ranking, among others. “Bermuda massive- get ready, get ready for a night of pure Memories as I Tony Screw aka Goldfinger will take you back in time with pure sweetness and foundation tunes.”

“We started out basically as a girls sound”, said Geefus. “Stone Love always keeps the ladies happy, but over the years, you done know, if girls follow your sound, men will follow too.

“So you have to directly cater both ways.

“I will be bringing the hottest dub plates with me out of the Stone Love vault and promise to mesh – up the place with a night of pure juggling style to keep the energy high and the massive moving and grooving.” To play a sound in a time like this can cause a lot of mental strain.

“People may think, ‘Bwoy you just fling on a tune and make some noise’. But if you’re playing a five hour gig, you have to know to space the tunes, without getting the crowd bored. His usual approach is to start out slow and build up the vibes.

“You have to make sure it’s a very effective selection. Usually like a Bob Marley or a Buju Banton, something they can sing along to. Then you take your time and build it back up. Easier said than done, perhaps, but it helps to be working with Stone Love’s vast dub catalog.

“Mostly recorded inside the studio located in their Kingston headquarters, where they also host the popular Weddy Weddy Wednesday night dance, Stone Love boasts numerous exclusive versions of classic tunes, many of which are better known than the original records they’re based on.

“Both selectors guarantee 100% pure fire. So make it a date and don’t be late. If you snooze, you will lose.”
