‘Genuine Concern Was Appreciated By All’

June 12, 2017

“Our sincerest condolences are extended to the Crockwell family on the passing of MP Shawn Crockwell.” commented Martha Dismont, Executive Director of Family Centre, adding that she personally met with Mr. Crockwell on numerous occasions, and he was “genuinely concerned about the issues that we discussed.”

“Our hearts are extended to the children and all of the family and friends who revered and adored Shawn for the example that he strove to set.”

She continued, “We are saddened by the loss of another figure of great promise. And, it is always disheartening to think of children growing up without the presence of one or more parents.

“Shawn Crockwell was an individual who fully embraced the concept of ‘change starts with me’, and he was clearly an inspiration to many of our youth. His accomplishments are impressive, given his journey, and we hope young Bermudians will consider what he did accomplish and continue to be inspired.”

“I personally met with Mr. Crockwell on numerous occasions in my role as Executive Director, and as Chair of the Interagency Committee for Children and Families. He listened intently to our concerns for the increase in gaming in Bermuda. He was open about the process, and was genuinely concerned about the issues that we discussed.

“He followed through on any commitments that were made, and for many months continued to dialogue with service providers. This display of genuine concern was appreciated by all.”

She concluded, “We send special wishes and care to his children and family, and we are available to provide any appropriate support that may be needed.”
