Next PechaKucha To Be Held On June 22

June 14, 2017

Pechakucha Bermuda will be held again on June 22, with a line up of eight presenters at Warwick Workman’s Club from 6.30pm to 10.00pm.

A spokesperson said, “Pechakucah Bermuda was was launched in 2012 by Nicky Gurret and Aideen Ratteray Pryse and for 6 years they have dedicated their time as volunteers later joined by Tiago Garcia and Najib Chentouf to organise four Pechakucha events each year where there are eight speakers at each event.

“Pechakucha’s have taken place at a variety of venues all over the island such as BMDS, BSOA, Blue Water’s Anglers Club, Devonshire Rec, Sandy’s Boat Club, St. Georges’s Cricket Club, Somerset Cricket Club and other clubs with over a total of 120 different presenters talking about topics that are dear and near to their hearts.

“At a time when email, Facebook and Twitter seemingly reduce the need for face-to-face encounters, a PechaKucha nights forces us out of the house or office and into a social space for stimulation and interaction.

“The new group of Pechakucha lovers that will now facilitate on a volunteer basis are Alba Fernandez, Kimberley Moore, Tiffany Paynter. Najib Chentouf and Stratton Hatfield.

“Pechakucha events involve a variety of people presenting their out-of-the-box creative ideas on any topic of their choice for everyone to enjoy, think about, laugh at and, maybe, be inspired by.

“PKNs were started by a pair of Tokyo-based architects who tackled this problem: How do you get a bunch of visual visionaries — many of them isolated, introverted, self-employed people who tend to hunch all day behind their computers — out into meet space, communicating, drinking, networking?

“The solution: Give them a format and a chance to talk about their current interests and listen to others doing the same. The presenters are not only visual artists now days but anyone who wants to express and idea or share their passion with an audience.

“The format is called a “20×20” where 20 images are projected on a screen, each for 20 seconds, while a presenter talks along with the images. The presentation is automated, so there is no “Can you go back one?” or “Next slide, please”; it is concise and rapid.

“The June 22nd Pechaucha is slated to have a great line up of eight presenters at Warwick Workman’s Club on Thursday June 22nd from 6:30 pm – 10:00pm. Refreshments and dinner will be available for purchase. The event is free however donations are accepted in order to give back to the venue.

“If any one would like to be a presenter in September, they can contact Alba Fernandez at albaytal@hotmail.com.”
