[Updated with video] While the racing was postponed yesterday [June 4] due to lack of winds, fans scored a surprise performance by Rev Run in the America’s Cup Village.

Run-D.M.C.’s Rev Run performed with Mel Debarge at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club on Saturday [June 3] in an event sponsored by the Bermuda Tourism Authority.

Bermuda Tourism Authority Chief Sales and Marketing Officer Victoria Isley described the event as a “welcome party for visiting media” covering the 35th America’s Cup. A limited supply of VIP tickets priced at $150 was also made available to the public for the event.

“Bermuda businessman Damon DeGraff of DGI Management in New York City worked with the Bermuda Tourism Authority to secure Rev Run, who has a social media following of more than eight million across several platforms,” said Isley.

“Rev Run was catapulted to stardom in the 1980s as one-third of the culture-shaping trio known as Run-D.M.C. The group was the first hip hop group to achieve a gold album and a Grammy nomination. Run-D.M.C. was also the first hip-hop act to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone and have a music video on MTV.”
