Annual Junior Fishing Tournament On Sunday

August 16, 2017

The sixth annual Junior Fishing Tournament, run by the Bermuda Anglers Club [BAC], will be held on Sunday [Aug 20] on a rain or shine basis, with fishing to begin at 8.30am.

A spokesperson said, “On Sunday, August 20th, boys and girls 16 years of age and under can compete in the Junior Fishing Tournament run by the Bermuda Anglers Club.

“No boat? No problem. There is a category for children fishing from the shore. And there are age categories for kids of all ages, so there is no reason why even the youngest of Bermuda’s kids can’t be out fishing.

“The tournament will be held on a rain or shine basis and kids will be able to start fishing at 8.30am in the morning. And it’s free to enter.”

Club President and Tournament Director Kip Froud said, “The BAC has been delighted with the response to the tournament in previous years and has high hopes for the 2017 event, especially now One Communications and Conyers Dill & Pearman have come on board as principal sponsors.

“This is an event where kids all across Bermuda can participate and enjoy time with their friends and family members. It has been especially rewarding to see kids participating and having fun. We want 2017 to be an even bigger success.

“Fishing is a great way for families to spend time together and we encourage everyone on the Island to get behind this important event.

“Part of the goal of the tournament is to help children understand and respect Bermuda’s Fisheries Regulations. The minimum legal weights and lengths for various species of fish are on each entry form.

“Each child that comes to the weigh-in station will receive a cool free t-shirt.

“The weigh-in will be held west of the Flagpole on Front Street between 3pm and 5pm on the afternoon of Sunday 20th August. Prize giving will be held at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club on Saturday 26th August at 10am. 25 prizes are up for grabs.

“The Junior Fishing Tournament owes its success to the generosity of our local sponsors. In addition to One Communications and Conyers Dill & Pearman, Butterfield & Vallis, John Barritt & Son Ltd and the Corporation of Hamilton are all behind the 2017 event.

“Entry forms are available online.
