Short Story Contest Offers $6,600 Prize Award

October 10, 2017

The 2018 Commonwealth Short Story Prize committee is calling for entries, and is urging Bermudian writers to enter the competition, which offers prize money of £2,500 [$3,300] to regional winners and £5,000 [$6,600] for the overall winner.

Luca Furio of the Commonwealth Foundation said, “In 2017 the prize attracted nearly 6,000 entries from 49 of the 52 Commonwealth countries, up from 2,000 entries from 42 countries in 2012.

“This year we are eager to increase our breadth of entries and encourage more entries from countries who are less aware of the opportunity.

“We received 7 entries from Bermuda in total last year. More entries from writers in Bermuda will help to bring a more inclusive range of narratives to the attention of an international audience.”

The prizes are awarded for the best pieces of unpublished short fiction ranging from 2,000–5,000 words, and entries must be submitted by November 1st, 2017.

The competition is free to enter, and full information on how to enter can be found here.
