The MV Chestnut — which was traveling from Maryland to Brazil — diverted to Bermuda this weekend as a crewman developed strong abdominal pain, and needed urgent medical treatment.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “The MV CHESTNUT contacted RCC Bermuda requesting assistance in evacuating a sick crewman who had developed strong abdominal pain, and needed urgent medical assessment ashore.

“The 19,814 GRT bulk carrier had departed Baltimore, MD., U.S.A., on 11th October bound for Santos, Brazil, but following medical advice was now diverting to Bermuda for immediate evacuation of patient early Sunday morning.
