Chief Justice Kawaley To Step Down In July 2018

Chief Justice Dr Ian Kawaley will be stepping down in July of next year, the Judicial and Legal Services Committee confirmed.

A spokesperson said, “The Judicial and Legal Services Committee, the Standing Committee appointed by the Governor to advise on, inter alia, judicial appointments announced today that a recruitment process is underway to fill the post of Chief Justice which will be vacated by the current incumbent Ian R. C. Kawaley on July 14, 2018.

“The Chief Justice Kawaley had already advised His Excellency The Governor of his intention to step down in July 2018, having been appointed in April 2012 on the understanding that he would serve for a term of not less than five years.”

    It is a shame that one of the best is stepping down. He has made some very learned decisions on very tough issues. I wish he would continue.
