Committee Re-opens Bargain Box Thrift Store

December 11, 2017

The Committee of 25 has re-opened the Bargain Box effective November 4th, with the store open every Saturday from 10am until 2pm, with opening hours expected to expand in the new year.

“Committee of 25 is a charity that provides financial support to families of children with special needs. This can range from financial assistance for prescription medications to emergency funds for medical travel, which might otherwise have to be paid out of pocket until an insurance claim can be filed, a spokesperson said.

“Bargain Box, a thrift store located at the Committee’s headquarters on Midsea Lane, Pembroke, is stocked by donations from the public, with the proceeds going toward the Committee of 25’s casework.

“The Committee of 25 operates on the proceeds of Bargain Box and rental income. It also enjoys positive relationships with local insurance companies.

“While they do not rely on grants, monetary donations are gratefully welcome and go a long way toward meeting the financial needs of our clients. Clients are referred to the charity by caseworkers or medical professionals, and support is provided to those up to the age of 21.”

Annette Holloway, Chairperson of Committee of 25, said: “We are pleased to be able to confirm that the Bargain Box has reopened with a newly renovated space.

“We look forward to welcoming shoppers who are looking for a good deal and at the same time, support our mission of helping our island’s children. We thank the members and volunteers for their hard work and support that helped to make this possible.”

Donated items are gratefully received and can be deposited at the drop off point behind the store during opening hours.
