High Police Presence For New Year’s Weekend

December 29, 2017

The Bermuda Police Service will be highly visible over the long New Year’s weekend and specifically  New Year’s Eve [NYE] with a view to “prevent incidents of antisocial behavior around the many functions and events that are planned”.

A police spokesperson said, “On NYE, officers will be deployed in the Town of St. George as well the Hamilton City Centre in particular.

“Also over the period the Roads Police Unit will be active with a goal of making travel on our roads safer.”

“The motoring public is asked to assist us by driving responsibly and adhering to the speed limit. Without a doubt, speed kills.

“Another emphasis will be placed on impaired driving. Remember, Do not Drink and Drive! Over the Christmas holiday period, 10 individuals have been arrested for suspicion of driving whilst impaired. Officers will be very vigilant over the New Year’s Weekend to ensure safety on our roads.

“Officers will maintain a strong police presence to deter offenders from spoiling the festivities and it is our goal to respond quickly to any emergency.

“On behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the staff and officers of the Bermuda Police Service, we wish each and every member of our community a safe and Happy New Year.”
