December 1, 2017

The Traffic Enforcement section of the Transport Control Department is currently conducting spot checks on commercial vehicles.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Traffic Enforcement section of the Transport Control Department is currently conducting spot checks on commercial vehicles. These checks will continue over the next few months.

“The Department takes this opportunity to remind commercial vehicle permit holders that vehicles licensed under their respective permits are only to be used under the terms and conditions of the permit.

“Only employees of the permit holder are permitted to operate and be transported in any commercial vehicle unless approval has been granted otherwise by the Department.”

About time! Now if only firefighters and police officers can be prevented from collecting their children from school, using official vehicles and
    in uniform.

I am all about cutting down on abuses, but it is no surprise that the examiners enforcement officers obviously pick, choose and refuse who they target.

A friend of mine was TARGETED for dropping his children off to school on his way to work. What is he supposed to do, rely on a unreliable bus transportation system that cancels 70-100 bus routes every day? The same bus and ferry system where drivers have been found to be driving while under the influence? This is the system he is supposed to rely on to get his kids to school? Why would any parent want to send their child to school on a bus that uses a bus station where fighting, stabbings, drunk and disorderly conduct is becoming the norm. He should use the same bus system that leaves hundreds of kids stranded each year because they decide to down tools and go on strike at a moments notice.

He pays for his own gas, licences and insurance and yet he was told he can not use his van for anything other than work! Fair enough. However, I trust that we will no longer see GP cars, W&E vehicles or even TCD Enforcement vehicles at schools, the supermarket, the airport or anywhere unless they are on official government business! We pay for that gas, lic and insurance through our taxes. If the rules are for all of us, then I guess I wont see company vehicles used by our ministers to go to parliament either because that is not company business. What is good for one is good for us all. Let our leaders, lead…or not.
