Bermuda’s Top 50 Twitter List For January 2018

Twitter announced that it wouldn’t be blocking US President Donald Trump’s tweets in spite in spite of a push by some to see him removed from the social media site.

The company wrote on its blog, “Blocking a world leader from Twitter or removing their controversial Tweets, would hide important information people should be able to see and debate. It would also not silence that leader, but it would certainly hamper necessary discussion around their words and actions. We review Tweets by leaders within the political context that defines them, and enforce our rules accordingly.”

The top two Bermuda Twitter accounts now have a combined following of more than one million people.

Locally, John Layfield, former WWE champion and FOX News commentator, along with Christian minister Dr Cindy Trimm pushed past the one million mark. Mr Layfield’s 777,000 followers are tops by a far margin, but Dr Trimm’s Twitter growth has seen her add more than 40,000 followers over the past six months.

Social media advocate Don Burgess remains third with Christian apologist Ledrew Fox fourth and reggae star Collie Buddz fifth.

Footballers Nahki Wells and Shaun Goater are seventh and eighth, but both should surpass Duddley Duddley soon. Triathlete world champion Flora Duffy continues to see her Twitter account grow and could pass the 10,000 follower mark in our first quarter rankings in April.
