February 27, 2018

The Bermuda International Film Festival will be holding a Twitter Chat with Chris Overton, director of the Oscar nominated film The Silent Child, tomorrow [Feb 28] at 8.00pm.

The first Twitter Chat was held this on February 22 with Amanda Renee Knox.

“The conversation with Amanda was exciting, with participation from around the globe. We are looking forward to continuing these sessions with the other filmmakers and their insight on the world of film and entertainment,” said Marketing & Communications Director Stephanie Lee.

In the following weeks, leading up to the festival, they will host chats with other filmmakers featured in the festival as well, including director Cristine Chen on March 6 and director Ryan Turner on March 13.

A summary of The Silent Child says, “Set in rural England and Inspired by real life events. The Silent Child film centres around a profoundly deaf four-year-old girl named Libby who is born into a middle-class family and lives in a world of silence until a caring social worker teaches her the gift of communication.

“When fresh faced social worker, Joanne turns up we see Libby transform. This once withdrawn four-year-old suddenly feels connected to the world and over a short period of time Joanne and Libby’s relationship blossoms.

“An insightful short story, inspired by real life events, observing one of the loneliest disabilities and the avoidable struggles that deaf children face.

The Silent Child is Chris’s directorial debut.

“Chris has been working in the industry for the last 18 years as an actor but always had a passion for what went on behind the camera since he was just 13 years old when he got his first digital camera.

“Taking the knowledge he learnt from being on professional sets he put his new found skills into practice. Which is where the birth of the UK’s leading Showreel production company came from. Slick Showreels have been producing a wide range of work including music videos, short films and documentaries for the last 5 years.

“He has worked with award winning directors such as Mat King, Harry Bradbeer, Stuart Orme, Joel Schumaccher, Oscar Winning Director Roman Polanski and was part of the main cast of Bafta award winning film Pride directed by Matthew Warchus.

“We encourage everyone to tune into the conversation and join the conversation If you’re not a Twitter use, you call still see the conversation, by heading to Twitter.com and searching for #BIFFChat.”
