February 6, 2018

Consumers paid 2.0% more in November 2017 than they did a year ago for the basket of goods and services included in the Consumer Price Index [CPI], and the level of inflation increased six percentage points from the 1.4% measured in October 2017.

This is according to the latest Consumer Price Index, which said, “Between October 2017 and November 2017, the average cost of goods and services in the CPI increased by 0.1%. The all-items index rose to 104.2 in November. This means that the basket of goods and services that cost $100.00 in April 2015 now costs $104.20.

“The Transport & Foreign Travel sector was the largest contributor to CPI in November. The average cost of premium fuels [+9.4%] propelled the sector to rise 6.0% year-over-year. In addition, the Tobacco & Liquor sector and the Food sector rose 9.3% and 2.8%, respectively.”
