A spokesperson said, “The City of Hamilton advises motorists and the general public that asphalting of the westbound driving lane on Front Street, between No.8 Gate and Court Street, will commence on Monday, March 5th, weather permitting, and is expected to be completed by Friday, March 9th.

“For safety, the eastbound lane will be closed to eastbound traffic from 7am till 9:30am to allow for morning commuter traffic to make its way westbound into the City with minimal inconvenience. Eastbound traffic during this time will be encouraged to detour up Parliament Street with absolute diversion at Court Street.

“After 9:30am, west bound traffic will be diverted up Spurling Hill where it can access Front Street again at Court Street. Eastbound traffic on Front Street will resume as normal at 9:30am. Motorists are advised to proceed with extreme caution while the work is carried out.

“On-street parking on Front Street between No.8 Gate and Court Street will be restricted in blocks as the work is carried out along this stretch. This includes No. 8 car park when the entrance is asphalted.

“Whilst the scheduling of the asphalting and no parking may be inconvenient at times, the City advises that due to budget limitations, the contractors schedule and the time frame for all asphalting of the ITU Triathlon route to be complete, there is limited opportunity to complete this project.

“The City apologizes for any inconvenience caused during this time and thanks the public for their continued patience while these important upgrades to the MS Amlin World Triathlon race course are carried out.”

In any major city that much road would have been done overnight – close it at 6:30 and finish and re-open by 7:30 the next morning.

There needs to be a time, that the powers that be grow some balls and just close streets off, so that paving of the roads can be done properly.
That entire section along front street could have been torn up and re paved in 2 days weather permitting.
The same goes for most of the public roads around the island.
Our roads could be much better, with less seams.
Why is it we never see were the ashphalt meets in the US or Canada, and they pave miles at a time across 2 and 4 lanes.
We must do better, it’s 2018
