BHS Welcomes NASA Engineer Dr. Milkovich

BHS is getting set to welcome NASA engineer and planetary geologist Dr. Sarah Milkovich to the School for a series of talks, and invites the public to attend her evening presentation “Is there life on Mars” on Tuesday, March 27 at 5.30pm.

A spokesperson said, “BHS is pleased to welcome NASA engineer and geologist Dr. Sarah Milkovich to the School for a series of talks, and invites the public to attend her evening presentation “Is there life on Mars” on Tuesday, March 27th from 5.30pm.

“Dr. Sarah Milkovich is a system engineer and planetary geologist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. She works on spacecraft operations, where Science and Engineering meet. Sarah is the Science Operations Development Lead for the Mars 2020 Rover, which will seek signs of ancient life on Mars.”

“Sarah has previously worked in the Mars Science Laboratory [the Curiosity Rover], the Mars Phoenix Lander, the Cassini-Huygens Spacecraft at Saturn, and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, where she was the investigation scientist for the HiRISE camera.

“She has won JPL and NASA team awards for her efforts to return the best possible Science within spacecraft engineering constraints. Sarah received her B.S. in Planetary Science from Caltech, and her M. Sc. and Ph.D. from Brown University in Planetary Geology with studies of mountain glaciers and polar deposits on Mars, and volcanism on Mercury.

“Dr. Milkovich will be presenting her journey and the work she is doing for NASA at BHS on Monday and Tuesday March 26th and 27th, to various year groups and classes.

“In addition, all senior schools on island have been invited to send students to an assembly on Tuesday March 27th and there will also be a lecture open to the public at 5:30 on Tuesday March 27th, in the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Guests are asked to RSVP to leadingtheway@bhs.bm if they wish to attend the public lecture.”
