Palm Sunday Walk To Be Held On March 25

March 22, 2018

This year’s Bermuda National Trust Palm Sunday Walk will explore Hamilton Parish on Sunday, March 25th.

The walk will start from The Wilkinson Memorial Park [beside Duck’s Puddle] on Coney Island Road at 2pm, no later than 3pm. The route is about 5 miles and should take two to 2.5 hours to complete.

The Bermuda National Trust said they are “extremely grateful for the tremendous support of our sponsor Sompo International,” and a Sompo International spokesperson said: “A supporter of the Bermuda National Trust and their role in preserving the island’s open spaces and rich heritage, Sompo International is proud to sponsor their 2018 Palm Sunday Walk.

“Sompo International supports numerous local services, projects and events that benefit the broader Bermuda community and looks forward to the annual spring walk as a way to promote both environmental awareness and physical and mental health.”

The Walk also marks the culmination of “March Through March”. Participants who have completed 25,000 steps in March are eligible for a complimentary membership of the Trust. People who wish to join in can still enter on www.Racedayworld.com

BNT said, “As always, the route will take participants to places that the public does not normally get to explore and a map will highlight some points of cultural and natural interest along the way.

“While providing breathtaking views throughout, this year’s walk will visit spectacular sites of national significance, historic neighbourhoods, a secluded nature reserve and pass several historic houses and buildings.

“Participants are advised to wear sensible shoes and to note that the route is not suitable for strollers or dogs. Please expect hills. Road users in Hamilton Parish on March 25 are asked to exercise care, as walkers will be on the road for most of the afternoon.

“We would like to like thank John Barritt & Son Ltd. who is kindly providing the refreshments again this year. Participants are encouraged bring a drinks container.

“The Trust encourages all locals and visitors to come and participate in this great community event. All are welcome and there is no charge for participation, although donations would be greatly appreciated. There will also be merchandise for sale, and this is an excellent opportunity to join the Trust.”
