Records Fall At Best Of The Best Swim Meet

The Best of the Best Short Course Swimming Series saw 20 records fall at the BASA Pool, as local swimmers displayed impressive form.

Sam Williamson broke Trevor Nelson’s twenty-three year old record in the 13-14 Boy’s 50m Breaststroke clocking 31.98, the previous record by Nelson was 33.03 set on November 1st, 1994.

Williamson would then break the 100m Breaststroke record time of 1:10.83 touching the wall in a new time 1:10.74. Williamson would then lower his 50m Breaststroke with a new time 31.98. Sam Williamson broke his 50m Breaststroke record from the morning dropping 7 tenths to new time of 31.22

Keagan Woolley broke Olympian Julian Fletcher’s 15-16 Boy’s 50m Breaststroke record time of 33.13 set back on June 22nd, 2007, when he was clocked at 32.16. Woolley would break Fletcher’s 200m Breaststroke record of 2:39.46 with a new time of 2:36.03. Woolley would lowered his record set this morning in the 50m Breaststroke with a time of 31.32.

The 17-18 Boy’s Individual Medley 4x50m Relay record with a time of 1:59.85, by Jesse Washington, Woolley, Joshua Throne and Lewis Sweeney, breaking the previous record of 2:07.24 set on June 12th, 2010 set by Christopher Wright, Kellan DeSilva, Conor Mullen and Nicholas Thomson.

Bret Smith broke the Boy’s 15 & Over 50m Backstroke record time touching the wall in a time of 28.36, breaking Nicholas Thomson’ June 24th 2007 record time of 28.49. Smith would then return and lower that time clocking 28.43.

Jack Harvey set a new 13-14 Boy’s 400m Individual Medley record clocking a time of 5:03.16, Harvey broke Stephen Fahy’s record time of 5:04.48 that stood for almost 26 years, which was set on July 1st 1992. Harvey would break Washington’s 200m Backstroke record time of 2:17.83 clocking a new time of 2:14.90.

Logan Watson-Brown broke the 13-14 Girls 200m Freestyle record time of 2:08.01 held by Madelyn Moore set back on March 22nd 2015. Watson-Brown next broke Emma Harvey’s 400m Freestyle record time of 4:34.63 when she was clocked touching the wall in a time of 4:32.75. Watson-Brown would later break her own 200m Freestyle record from her Preliminary swim with a time of 2:07.07

Jesse Washington 17-18 Boy’s 100m Freestyle record time of 52.27 set by Benedict Parfit, with a new record time of 51.27. Washington would then break Michael O’Connor’s 100m Butterfly time of 25.79 clocking a new time 25.56. Washington would break a 20 year old record by Jason Mastalir in the 50m Backstroke who had a time of 27.84 clocking 27.47.

Washington then broke the 200m Freestyle record taking Mastalir’s record from February 2009 of 1:54.07 to a new record of 1:52.40. Washington’s swim is also the new Bermuda Open record taken the record from Ronald Cowen of 1:52.79 from 2002. Washington had the final record of the weekend in the 100 Butterfly breaking Michael O’Connor’s record of 58.44 with a time of 57.06.
