Cycling Time Trial Around Harrington Sound

Known in cycling terms as the ‘race of truth’ with riders racing against the clock, Winners Edge rider Kaden Hopkins again showed that he will be a tough rider to beat as he set another blistering pace to take the victory in the Winners Edge time-trial on Sunday morning that took the riders from Harrington Sound School, twice around the sound, a distance of 14.8 miles. Having just turned 18 last month, the youngster clearly showed that he is on track for another strong season on the bike covering the course in 32 minutes 54 seconds, an average speed of 26.9 mph.

Already having produced some impressive results this year for US team Hot Tubes, Matthew Oliveira was second in 33.41 and Masters rider Geoff Smith of Team Tokio belied age by rounding out the top three in 35.58. Also worthy of note was a stand-out ride by 15 year old Nicholas Narraway, who has already caught the attention of the local top riders as he produced a strong ride, finishing 5th overall in 36.28 signaling that he will be one to watch in the future.

In the women’s field, Winners Edge rider Nicole Mitchell took honors finishing in 39.27 an average speed of 22.5mph as she works towards the Killington Stage Race and CAC Games later this year. Bicycle Works Caitlin Conyers put in another strong performance following on from her dominant win in the Winners Edge Road Race last week, and looks on course for a good season. Conyers Team-mate Jamie-Lee Wright was third in 41.00.

With Tokio rider Smith taking third overall in 35.58, and winning the Masters category, stalwart Kent Richardson of Winners Edge placed second in 37.24. Fabian Schonenburg, Team Tokio completed the top three in 37.32.
Louise Wells, Penelope Butterfield and Julia Hawley of Team Winners Ede were the top three master’s women in 42.09, 45.38 and 46.21 respectively.

On the one lap 7.4 mile course in the 11-12 and 13-14 categories 13 year old Winners Edge rider Blake Oliveira was in a class on his own recording the fastest time of 21.56 Zamauri Richardson Bermuda Cycling Academy was second in 25.04 with Megan Hands, Winners Edge was third in the category in 27.12. However 11-12 winner of Team Tokio had an impressive ride to record the third fastest time of 26.52. The youngest rider of the day in the 11-12 category, Charlotte Millington riding for VT Construction Madison finished in 29.22.
