Woman Injured In Collision In Smiths

[Updated] As of 3.00pm this afternoon [April 24] traffic is being diverted in the Harrington Sound Road area following a collision.

A police spokesperson said, “Police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place on Harrington Sound Road in the area of Sommerall Road in Smiths at 1:57pm today [Tuesday].

“It appears that a female on a auxiliary cycle was traveling west on Harrington Sound Road when she collided with a SAL Tractor-trailer traveling in the opposite direction.

“The female was taken via ambulance to KEMH where she is being treated for serious injuries.

“The road has been cordoned off and traffic is being diverted away from the area while the scene is being processed by the relevant officers.

“Police are appealing for anyone who saw the collision to contact police on 295-0011.”

Update Apr 25, 11.12am: A police spokesperson said, “At last check this morning [April 25th] the female auxiliary [50cc] cycle rider injured in a collision with a tractor-trailer truck on Harrington Sound Road in the area of Sommersall Road, Smith’s parish around 2pm Tuesday, April 24th – believed to be an 18 year old Hamilton parish woman – was recovering in stable condition on a general ward at the hospital.

“Inquiries continue and any witnesses are asked to contact the main police telephone number 295-0011.”
