Collision On North Shore Road Results In Injury

[Updated] An injured motorcyclist was transported to hospital tonight [May 6] after colliding with a wooden barrier on the side of the road according to police and traffic is being diverted away from the scene on North Shore Road in Smiths.

Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines said, “Police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place on North Shore Road in Smiths, 200 meters east of Store Hill on Sunday night at 10:05pm.

“It appears That a man on a motorcycle was traveling east on North Shore Rd. and over took a taxi traveling in the same direction. This resulted in the rider losing control of his cycle and colliding with the wooden barrier on the other side of the road. The man was taken to the hospital where he is being treated for leg and head injuries.

“The road is presently cordoned off whilst the relevant police officers are processing the scene. Witnesses are asked to contact police on 295-0011.”

Update 12.36pm, May 7: A police spokesperson said, “At last check this morning [May 7th] the motorcyclist injured after crashing into wooden fencing along North Shore Road in Smith’s parish near the junction with Store Hill around 10pm Sunday, May 6th – said to be a 39 year old Hamilton parish man – was recovering in stable condition on a general ward at the hospital. Inquiries continue and any witnesses are asked to contact the main police telephone number 295-0011.”

    Ouch, if the person lives to tell the tale I hope it has taught them a lesson (although I doubt it will have!). Standard of driving this weekend was absolutely atrocious. It makes me scared to be on the roads.
