Emerging Artist Shalae Johnston To Host Show

May 11, 2018

Emerging artist Shalae Johnston is getting set to host a show this afternoon [May 11], beginning at 5.30pm at Masterworks.

A spokesperson said, “Museums are a reflection of their country’s identity. Bermuda Masterworks in the Botanical Gardens has a long tradition of supporting Bermuda’s budding artistic talent. Within Homer’s Café, an intimate space which is now being operated by Salty Lime catering, Café Shows, as they are known, are a great vehicle for new and emerging artists looking to make those first steps in their art careers.

“This Friday, May 11, beginning at 5:30pm will be the opening reception for Ms. Shalae Johnston.”

“Shalae Johnston is one of Bermuda’s emerging visual story-tellers. Weaving together different materials in richly coloured collages she tells the tale of the Bermuda Triangle. Travelers drawn across the seas towards a magical land, captured by a hook shaped island. Mystery and menace coexist.

“For the ships, planes and people there appears to be no rescue save for a spiritual awakening, heightening with each wave that pushes them toward the shore. Bewitching Bermuda shows its side as the Devil’s Isle. Textures and colours intensify the sense of the supernatural.”

Flora Goodall, Special Exhibitions and Events, said, “We invite and encourage everyone to attend the opening this Friday. If you are unable to attend the opening, her pieces will be on display until June 8th, 2018 in the Homer’s Café at Masterworks, Monday through Saturdays, 9am – 4pm. All are available for sale, all originals. Investing in pieces of original art, not only benefits the artist, but continues the preservation of our history and culture.

“To register your attendance to the show, email mworks@logic.bm or call 299-4000. Walk ups are welcome.”
