YAO Baseball League: Orioles & Nationals Win

A Bermuda YAO Baseball Babe Ruth double-header took place at the YAO Ball Park in St. George’s.

Jackson Spurling would not be denied at the plate, picking up four hits and leading the Orioles to a 15-8 win over Yankees. Spurling Tripled in the first, Singled in the second, Singled in the third, and Singled in the fifth.

The Orioles earned the victory despite allowing Yankees to score seven runs in the third inning. Yankees big bats were led by George Kerr, Tyrse Charves, Jack Martin, Nic Martin and Jordan Etamadi, all knocking in runs in the inning. The Orioles scored one run when Spurling Tripled and five runs in the second inning. Spurling and Andrew Manuel powered the big inning with RBIs.

Spurling was on the mound for Orioles Senior. He allowed four hits and eight runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out five. Martin led things off on the pitcher’s mound for Yankees. He allowed one hit and four runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Spurling and Kaelin Paynter all had multiple hits for the Orioles.

The Cubs watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 14-5 loss to the Nationals. The Nationals scored on a single by Liam McCue, a single by Somerville Connor, and an error in the first inning.

The Cubs struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Nationals, giving up 14 runs. Nationals scored five runs in the first and in the fifth innings to put the game away. The offensive firepower by Nationals was led by Joss Lipshutz, Jackson Burns, McCue and Connor Somerville, who each had RBIs in the inning.

McCue got the start for Nationals, he allowed four hits and five runs over four innings, striking out six. Noah Simons led things off on the hill for Cubs. He surrendered eight runs on five hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three.

Sam Resnik threw three and a third innings in relief, striking out 8, walking 3 and giving up 3 runs. Owen Sullivan, Jannis Roberts, Dariyon Davis each contributed to the Cubs Offensively, but it was not enough to overcome the Nationals.
