Bermuda Softball League Action Continues

July 16, 2018

The top A Division and B Division softball teams faced off last Thursday with Docksiders protecting their unblemished record in a 16 to 7 triumph over X-Bats.

Docksiders jumped out to a 6-0 first inning advantage and never looked back as they coasted to the win. Richard Madeiros [3-3] and Lovintz Tota [3-4] led the way for the victors. Tota homered and drove in six runs while Mike Sakata, and Carl Brown also homered for Docksiders.

Robbie Bailey had to step in and pitch for X-Bats as their starter was off the island. Bailey was also handy at the plate going 3-4 while teammate Ryan Love was a perfect 3-3.

Hakuna Mata Charters prevailed 19 to 16 in a hotly fought contest against Blue Wahoos. Steven Smith [3-5] drove in six runs, thanks in part to two homers. Shannon Raynor plated four with a 3-4 hitting clinic. Jason Lowe was part of the Docksiders’ hit parade in going 4-5.

Shane Matchett [2-4] homered and had 4 RBIs in the loss for Blue Wahoos. Chris Jackson [3-5] and Derrick Holmes [4-5] helped set the table for Wahoos at the top of the lineup.

Buffaloes beat top C Division club Super Express 13 to 7 in the only game played on Wednesday as rain affected the late matches. Super Express has a one-point advantage over Buffaloes in the standings, but Buffaloes have a game in hand and are riding a six-game win streak.

Everyone in the Buffaloes lineup had at least one hit in a balanced attack. Brandon Ray and Brent Giannono led the way with four hits apiece.

Peter Vipavec and Qian Franks were both 3-4 for Super Express in the losing cause. RJ Durham also had a nice turn at the dish for Express in batting 2-3 and driving home two.

Tuesday’s slate of contests was one-sided. Shooters hammered Deloitte 17 to 1.

Paraquet Flyers feasted on the Beach Bums 22 to 1. Platano Power continued its surge up the B Division standings with a 22 to 4 pounding of the Corporation of Hamilton. The victory moved Platano within a point of top club X-Bats.

In the Corporate Division, KPMG beat PWC 27 to 11. With the win, KPMG moved into a tie for third place.

All games are played Monday through Thursday at Michael Preece Stadium at Bernard Park. Games start at 6pm.
