Court: Drivers Fined & Banned For 18 Months

July 5, 2018

Two drink-drivers have been banned from the roads for 18 months.

Both Makeem Waldron and Barry Wilkes lost control of their vehicles in separate accidents earlier this year.

Waldron, 28, of Devonshire collided with a wall at the junction of North Shore Road and Dock Hill in Devonshire on June 16 as he made his way home after a party.

He initially claimed that his “granny” had been driving the vehicle at the time of the accident, but this morning pleaded guilty to driving while over the limit.

Magistrate Tyrone Chin imposed a $1200 fine as well as the driving ban.

In a separate and unrelated case Walkes, 20, of Sandys lost control of his motorbike close to the junction of Middle Road and Church Road in Southampton on March 23.

The court heard that when officers arrived he was sitting on his bike with blood coming from an injury above his eye.

Officers noted that he was unsteady in his feet and his eyes were glazed.

This morning he admitted driving when his ability to drive was affected by alcohol. He was also fined $1200 and banned from driving for 18 months.
