“Effective Clean Up” After Accidental Oil Spill

Oil was accidentally spilled into the Harbour from a visiting sports fishing vessel, however “crews were quick to deploy oil spill clean-up equipment and “readily available resources allowed for a quick response and effective clean-up,” the Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre said.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Saturday 30th June, 8:32am. Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre is contacted by the Hamilton Princess Dockmaster who reports a MARPOL [Marine Pollution] incident involving a visiting Sports Fishing vessel and its support vessel. A transfer of oil was taking place when 4 to 5 gallons of oil was accidentally spilled into the Harbour.

“Crews were quick to deploy oil spill clean-up equipment and by the end of the day there was no further pollution to report. Readily available resources allowed for a quick response and effective clean-up of area.”
