Premier & Ministers Present Gifts To Hammond

During the Cup Match Summer Splash, One Love One Life Concert held over the weekend, Premier and Minister of Finance David Burt, thanked the Grammy-nominated reggae artist Beres Hammond, for his musical contributions.

The Premier also recognized that Mr. Hammond has been traveling to and performing in Bermuda since 1975.

The Premier was joined on stage by the Minister of Social Development and Sports Michael Weeks and the Minister of Economic Development and Tourism Jamahl Simmons, who presented a handmade Gombey doll and a cedar tray with the map of Bermuda engraved on it, respectively.

The Gombey doll was made by Mrs. Janice Warner-Tucker and the tray by Mr. Anthony Flood who is an inmate at the Department of Corrections.

    That was a very awkward moment – stopping a concert (and MID SONG) to make this presentation. It was definitely a damper on the vibe. Nice gesture but really bad timing.

      Your kidding? Really mid-concert for a photo-op! Shoulda been done at the start or during the break. Back in the day he would’ve been licked with becks bottles for stopping the party for a political promo. But, I guess that’s why they serve beers in cups now.

      It really wasn’t abig deal. The crowd cheered when he was presented with the gifts and the show resumed.

    SMH…..PLP governing through a photo ops. Can you spend less time taking pictures and more time actually doing something different from UBP/OBA.

      The oba/UBP can’t take photos at this time their Leader is sleep in de HOUSE. I hear they can’t even find good candidates. My brothers & sisters keep saying NO!

      It seems as though this has been the most nastily politicized Cup Match in history and the colonel’s remarks are only a small part of it .
      Too late to make that request I’m afraid .
