Cruise Ship Returns For Medical Evacuations

On Saturday [Aug 11] the cruise ship Anthem of the Seas returned to Bermuda for the medical evacuation of two passengers.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “While departing Bermuda via North Channel, cruise ship Anthem of the Seas contacted Bermuda Radio reporting the need to evacuate an ill passenger at the sea buoy.

“Pilot boat St. David and local Emergency Medical Services were put on standby as patient was successfully landed ashore just after 5pm and taken via ambulance to Kind Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

“At 6:49pm., Bermuda Radio receives a second call from Anthem of the Seas reporting that ship is returning to Bermuda for the medical evacuation of a second patient.

“Pilot boat St. David and local EMS were mustered again, as second patient was successfully transferred ashore and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. Anthem of the Seas continued towards its next port of call in Phillipsburg, St. Maarten.”
