DPT: ‘Bus Cancellations Will Likely Continue’
The Department of Public Transportation said they are working to increase the number of in-service buses, however they would like to give advance notice that “cancellations will likely continue into the beginning of the Fall 2018 School Term.”
“DPT continues to work towards having an entirely new bus schedule in place which will rely on fewer buses and in doing so facilitate a more reliable service,” the DPT said.
A spokesperson said, “The Department of Public Transportation [DPT] is encouraging parents and students to consider alternate modes of transportation in the upcoming academic year.
“While the DPT is working assiduously to increase the number of in-service buses and eliminate cancellations, they would like to give advance notice to parents, students and the general public that cancellations will likely continue into the beginning of the Fall 2018 School Term.
“Parents and students are encouraged to consider utilizing the commuter ferry service and coordinate rides with family and friends.
“The Department is seeking to implement an interim solution that will assist commuters and, in particular, school students in reaching their destinations.
“At the same time, DPT continues to work towards having an entirely new bus schedule in place which will rely on fewer buses and in doing so facilitate a more reliable service.
“The DPT regrets the inconvenience caused by scheduling changes and remains committed to providing a quality, reliable public bus service.”
the blame for this b/s is with the BIU and plp.
More lies. Guys couldn’t organize an explosion in a dynamite ware house.
how much does a new bus cost?
how long will it take to get here?
how long after it gets here will it get on the road?
Are those buses that got here in January on the road yet?
A new bus should be under $300,000. We could buy 14 per week if we did not have the PLP debt to service.
How long does it take to ship a bus here? Right now some taxi drivers are getting used vehicles, at a very good price & in very good condition, from Japan. Delivery time is usually no more than a month & a half once paperwork is done & the vehicle is ready to travel.
Of course getting buses from Japan, where they build buses with steering wheels on the left for their own domestic market as well as other countrys that drive on the left, makes way too sense for our PTB.
“DPT continues to work towards having an entirely new bus schedule in place which will rely on fewer buses and in doing so facilitate a more reliable service”
- but it seems that this effort has constantly and futilely met with resistance from the drivers’ union for years and years. Can Mr. Roban turn the tide on this, or are we the public to be left in a pickle?
Stormy Daniels – you win the Internet today! You are sooooo right.
….explosion in a dynamite warehouse……..
….p*ss up in a brewery ………..
There are so many truely competent and talented and well educated Bermudians in our workforce. Just a shame they aren’t in the PLP government or the BIU.
Just give it back to the minibuses to do
While the drivers are “resting” get them to wash the buses. Disgracefull!!
They might break a finger nail.
OOH OOH!!! I have an idea!! Why don’t we hire the people who are ALWAYS at every march or demonstration and let them take the kids home to and from school. At least they’ll be productive and actually be a solution to a problem!!
High tec fintech whatever can’t even run a a basic bus service why? We cant rattle our supporters = BIU , the whole bus service needs reform top to bottom
“The Department of Public Transportation [DPT] is encouraging parents and students to consider alternate modes of transportation in the upcoming academic year.”
In other words, “we give up”. Utter failure.
Well with every passing day the incompetence of this government is becoming very clear lets see a year later and we can’t get buses back on the road to at least not have our school children affected …what a joke
no need to say anymore its a circus
So we can’t even get our kids to school anymore. Shameful. Worse than 3rd World. You have now failed a generation…of future voters. And their parents who now have to figure our how to continue to work and transport their children while clogging up the roads with private vehicles. Now this is a reason to be marching on Parliament.
the minister of transportation has not done his job, but like the rest of these loosers they will be making excuses
here a thought use some of those government cars to take children to school I will be happy to drive
PLP is shaping up to be a 1 term Government
To think our Pemier saw fit to give the somerset cricket club 70k !!!!!!!and now this so called government can’t even give us a bus service !!! and else for the amount of rats that have been seen all over the Island… what the hell is going on… I hope the Govenor is paying attention to this crisis..
Upset voter, I hope so!!
DPT had time over school break to get buses fixed. No. Stand up Rabain & BIU. 1 term government. Onion juice you better understand Bermuda now a sinking ship. Now more 25/12. People now who voted PLP seeing they being screwed.
with their pants on.
This is really rediculous.
There will be more tourists waiting for buses that will never arrive.
The BIU and PLP are going to sink this island.
Furbert and Burt need to catch the next boat to Russia. Maybe Puttin will talk some sense into their thick heads.
OJ does not comment on these stories.
Correction 25/11. Still 1 term government.
yeah Milkman, Bob the snob and clueless Nandi your tenure was all bout 2017 richman’s cup ,never did you all invested in buses and parts…2014 buses were order under the PLP, 2018 buses were ordered under the OBA !
Such hate filled plpers….
Bernews June 29, 2016
“The Ministry became engaged in a contractual dispute with the Belgian company relating to the supply, delivery and payment for buses that the Ministry had ordered.
“In April 2015, a settlement agreement was reached between the Ministry and the bus supplier that called for the delivery of 4 new buses and concluded the dispute regarding payment for buses already delivered. However, disputes continued regarding supply, delivery, and payment for the new buses ordered.
“The Ministry is currently undertaking a review of all accounting on the bus contracts and it is premature to comment because the review is ongoing. At this time, the review has not revealed any missing public funds.”
Turns out someone in the DPT at the time pushed through a down payment against advice for $300K which was cashed and disappeared. There is a court case in Belgium.
Ursula…stay drunk ….the Americas Cup generated millions of dollars that hit every segment of our population but those stevie Wonder shades you are wearing you couldn’t see that …but more importantly you don’t ever want to admit that the AC was hands down the best investment this country has ever made. The plp hasn’t and don’t have the foresight to deliver any thing near to the AC success story . Buses …Trash…turning a doomed housing project into a hotel…. Berkely…cruise ship terminal ….port royal….St. Georges Golf Course ….shall I go on ….
I didn’t vote for these clowns
You truly are dunken ursula. You have to really stretch to defend this one. Sound a lot like your trump compatriots in the US. Forever denial.
Glad I left
where is the beef ?
we have tons of “GP Cars” paid by the taxpayers.
they have to serve the community
tons claim to be job less…
give each of those the GP cars , serve the kids to school and back and the problem is solved.
No one to blame but our Government. If its PLP or OBA.
you know if it wasn’t so awful it would be funny.
The Dept. of PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION is telling the PUBLIC to find alternative TRANSPORTATION.
WHAT is wrong with this picture I ask?
