Update 12.50pm: A spokesperson said, “The BCB are pleased to announce the new and exciting inaugural Super 8 Festival to be held at Sea Breeze Oval on September 8th and 9th.

“The competition will feature 8 teams, with 8 players, playing 8 overs per match over the 2 days with each team guaranteed a minimum of 4 matches and $1000 cash prizes up for grabs.

“So, if you like the T20 format, this is faster and more exciting. We are hoping to create that Eastern Counties environment, so we need you to come out and support your team.

“Entrance fee will be $10 per person, children and seniors will pay $5. Spots are available for purchase for $100 for both days from Friday August 24th at the BCB office [292-8958 or email info@cricket.bm], and if there are any vendors interested in the opportunity, please give our office a call for pricing.

“The tournament will be played from 9am-7.30pm each day. On Friday September 7th at 12 noon, the Captains of the teams will have a draw for the placement of their team on the schedule, and then on Saturday teams will play for seeding positions with 3 games each. Sunday will be the knock-out stage based on the team’s positions from the previous day.”

BCB President, Lloyd Smith, said: “The Festival provides a chance for everybody to have fun [fans and players] and enjoy a special weekend. The Super 8 format provides constant excitement and compelling viewing at a beautiful venue. If you’re a cricket lover and would like to see 80 of Bermuda’s best players, playing cricket at 1 field over a 2 day period, this is the event for you.”

Nice attempt to end the cricket season on a good note and I suspect this festival won’t really take wings until the 2nd or 3rd yr… well done tho!
Few things I think said happen with bcb immediately:

    1. Install Jeff Richardson as national team head coach & have him encourage the nat’l cricket misfits to represent their country again
    2. Deal with the Malachi Jones issue
    3. Establish Bailey’s Bay CC as the national team training site since no other sport is played there during the off-season and there’s use of a turf wicket and a field, although it’s small
    4. Try to encourage a few of the evening league teams to join the bcb league or Tuff Dogs & NVCC
    5. Purchase animated scoreboards for every cricket club with proper ‘facilities’

    Just a thought!

Ps… if you reply to this msg with an alias, don’t expect a response

This sounds like a great event! Well done BCB!

So you copied this from the Fiqre cricket expo St.David’s host every year. You must have forgotten that half the people that play cricket also play football. The football season starts September 9th. The same day as this pointless copy cat tournament. BCB has failed again. Dummies 101
