Man Brandishing Knife Enters Shop, Steals Chain

August 16, 2018

A suspect entered Oleander Cycles in Southampton this afternoon [Aug 16] where “they brandished a knife and scuffle ensued,” with the suspect stealing a chain from the victim before fleeing on a waiting motorcycle.

A police spokesperson said, “Police responded to a report of an incident that took place at 2:10pm today at Oleander Cycles on South Road in Southampton just opposite the Reefs Hotel.

“It appears that a male employee was in the shop when a suspect entered the shop, brandished a knife and a scuffle ensued.

“The suspect stole a 30 inch chain from around the neck of the victim. He then left on a waiting motorcycle that was ridden by his male accomplice. Both suspects were dressed in all black and riding a black motorcycle.

“Police have commenced an investigation and we are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have any information that can assist in the identification and capturing of the suspects to contact CID on 295-0011.

“The victim in this case did not suffer any apparent injures,” the police added.

This is the latest in a spree of chain snatching incidents, and the police said “we cannot rule any connections from any recent incidents.”
