Police Investigating Chain Snatching Incidents

August 8, 2018

Police are currently investigating two incidents of chain snatching, which took place on South Road yesterday [Aug 7], in a short space of time.

A police spokesperson said, “Around 10:00am the male victim was travelling east along South Road, Paget near Stovell Lane, when two men on a motorcycle road alongside victim, grabbing ahold of the chain around his neck. They were unsuccessful in their attempt to take the chain, but were able to make good on their escape, traveling in an easterly direction along South Road.

“The second incident took place just east of Cobb’s Hill, Warwick around 10:20am. The victim, a male tourist headed in a westerly direction came to a stop behind traffic, when two men on a motorcycle also travelling west came alongside the victim and snatched a chain from his neck. The suspects rode onto Cobb’s Hill Road, also making good on their escape.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have information or saw two men on a black motorcycle, wearing full-face dark coloured helmets and acting suspiciously, between 10:00am and 10:30am to contact the Criminal Investigation Unit on 247-1044 or the confidential Crime Stoppers number on 800-8477.

“Thefts from motorcycle riders are mostly crimes of opportunity. We would like to encourage motorcycle riders to conceal any items of jewellery and secure exposed property when traveling on the roads, making you less of a target from this type of crime.”

  1. Oh really says:

It is about time everyone get on board with finding a way to get rid of these gangsters. Parents need to be held accountable for the MONSTERS they have created. Enough is enough step up and raise your children properly.

    • Pickled Tink says:

I don’t agree with making parents accountable, unless they are assisting the actions of their children through neglect or denial.

However, I am on board with making the criminals truly accountable and hitting them where it hurts! Throwing a person in jail is not a deterrent to someone that is homeless and hungry. A small fine, is not a deterrent to someone with lots of money. Being locked up is not a deterrent to someone that is lazy.

No two crimes are the same. No two criminals are the same. I don’t understand why well educated judges and lawyers don’t understand this. Hit them where it hurts.

Let the victims beat the crap out of the criminals. Victims are often mentally scarred so who gives a crap if criminals suffer too.

I trust that the punks that got a beat down by the tourists in dockyard have stopped stealing. Pain is an amazing reminder.

  3. Izzypop says:

Surely the cameras all over the place up that way will show something

  4. Nana says:

If and when they are caught they should have some of their fingers chopped off on both hands so they would not be able to ride and snatch anyone else’s chain. These punks need to be stopped by whatever means.

    • Madge says:

I agree and they should also get a whipping

    • Nfn says:

      Stfu

      • Toodle-oo says:

Tell it like it is ! !
People should be entitled to steal other’s hard earned stuff with NO repercussions .
We don’t like consequences and punishments in Bda , it’s just so demeaning . We like to coddle our criminals and baby them .
Two Bermudas .. all the way ! !

      • sage says:

        You one of the culprits?

  5. puzzled says:

The last paragraph here speaks volumes.

    They can kiss my A$$.

Bring it on. This sheet is for the birds.

Next; I won’t be able to wear a ring in public.

  6. Point boy says:

They need a cut a$$! Remember last summer, those would be criminals?
    I bet it wasn’t them!

    I hope your reading this.
For me, that’s the most personal!

  7. Concerned Bermudian says:

And I ask again…. a year later…. why haven’t dark full faced helmets been banned???? A simple move towards being able to more readily identify these thuds!!! Ban these dark faced helmets.

    • Anbu says:

Again i say. Because criminals dont care what is and isnt against the law. Stop trying to make the inocent be inconvenienced for the ignorance these tools get up to. Guns are illegal, shooters dont give a dam, stealing is illegal, again criminals dont care. How abt the police actually do their jobs instead of just sitting in their cars with the ac running. Ever had to report a crime before? The “police” make it so that you are the idiot for not concealing or securing your items better. Um i thought thats why we had locks on our doors. Wanna deal with these thugs? Chase them down and run them over. Eye for an eye.

  8. Na says:

A living wage won’t solve our gangsta plague.

    • sage says:

Fret not, Arbitrade, Leroy and the Ministry of National Security are setting up the chicken farms as we speak, these things will soon be a thing of the past.

  9. Boss Hoss says:

Thieves should have their hands cut off as legal punishment. They dont use them for anything constructive anyways. And let the public watch the chopping. And if you rob a tourist you should be banned from ever leaving the island for vacation, and be double chopped. Hear that, thieves? And if you break into a house, you get your legs broke homeboy. Word of warning, bruh. Bruh, bruh, bruh, you cockroaches cant evolve high enough intelligence to interact with fellow humans? scum trash people not worthy of being called human.

  10. Kim Smith says:

Despicable behaviour! Whoever knows something (and there are those that do), speak up… or you are guilty by association!
