Ocean Rock Wellness Student Workshops
Ocean Rock Wellness has announced that their 3rd annual Student Wellness Workshops are starting this month, running from Wednesday, September 26th to Thursday, October 4th, 2018.
A spokesperson said, “The holistic healthcare team at Ocean Rock Wellness is excited to announce that their 3rd annual Student Wellness Workshops are starting this month, running from September 26th to October 4th, 2018.
“Ocean Rock Wellness is a multidisciplinary healthcare practice, full of professionals who have helped many families who are battling childhood obesity. Their practice provides a child-centered twelve month obesity treatment program that has had amazing results.
“According to Dr. Peets Talbot, the medical director at Ocean Rock Wellness, many of the children they help require support in building positive self-esteem and self-worth. She further reports that some of these children have experienced bullying and teasing at school and in their community, which also needs to be addressed.
“To achieve this widespread community initiative, Ocean Rock Wellness is partnering with Healthy Schools Bermuda and Youth Wellness Network in Canada to make it happen. These workshops are in honor of Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, and aim to build community leaders in mindfulness, emotional intelligence and self-love.
“Last year Ocean Rock Wellness invited Mr. Michael Eisen to the island, the founder of the Youth Wellness Network. He provided such an engaging and inspirational experience, he has been invited back this year! Mr. Eisen uses his own personal story to help the students understand the concept and journey of self-love.
“Last year Ocean Rock Wellness was fortunate enough to reach out to ten local schools, selecting groups of children to learn how to become their own best friend, and to learn the power of choice. According to Dr. Peets Talbot, ‘these students blossomed before my eyes and became love ambassadors, eager to spread a positive message to their peers.’
“This month, 20 – 30 students will be selected from each of the participating schools and those students will be trained on how to become Student Wellness Leaders.
“Through a fun, interactive hands on approach, students will dive deep into activities promoting lessons and ideas in gratitude, mindfulness, self- worth and happiness.
“Students will be encouraged to come up with their own ideas and be provided with the blueprints for school wide wellness initiatives which they can implement over the year, and will be overseen by their school teacher leads.
“The participating government schools include: T.N Tatem Middle School, Dellwood Middle School and Cedarbridge Academy. The private schools include: Somersfield Academy, Warwick Academy and Bermuda High School for Girls.
“The workshops will go in further depth this year, including support and training for teachers and parents as well. According to Dr. Peets Talbot, ‘we believe by including the teachers and parents in the wellness training, positive conversations and changes will stick.’
“This year Ocean Rock Wellness is happy to have their newest team member, Rolisa Camille, a Rapid Transformational Therapist, working alongside Mr. Eisen during their week of workshops. Rolisa was also the lead contact for the schools, and has thoroughly enjoyed organizing such a big event.
“As a therapist, Rolisa has lots of experience raising teen’s self-esteem and self-worth by talking with them about the thoughts and beliefs they have about themselves. Rolisa says, ‘The most important opinion of you, is the opinion you have of Yourself; The most important praise, is the praise you give yourself!’
“Rolisa will be a great local resource for any parents or teachers who have concerns about their child or student who is struggling with self-esteem issues. Rolisa uses a very unique approach to get to the root of her client’s beliefs and helps to empower individuals to make lifelong changes through the use of powerful rapid transformational recordings.
“Overall, youth from six different middle and high schools will benefit from either a full or half day of training. Teachers from those same schools will all be invited to a Teacher Workshop geared to support their new Student Wellness Leaders.
“Parents from all over Bermuda, even outside of those six schools, will have the opportunity to attend the Community Parent Workshop. Both teacher and parent workshops will be held at Cedarbridge Academy, who have graciously supported these two unique and special events.
“The Community Parent Workshop, will be held on Wednesday, September 26th, 5:30pm at Cedarbridge Academy. It will focus on supporting Bermuda’s parents, giving them tools and strategies for mindfulness and self-care so that they can learn how to interact with their kids with more compassion and empathy, and better understand the challenges their kids face when it comes to Mental Health and Well-Being.
“This workshop will last between 60 – 90 minutes, with ample time to ask the professionals any questions they may have. They hope every parent and teacher will leave the presentation with a renewed sense of confidence in their ability to understand, relate to, and communicate with their kids or any youth in their lives.
“The Teacher Workshop will be held on Monday October 1st at Cedarbridge Acedamy. This workshop will focus on supporting teachers in strategies and practices in mindfulness and self-care. This will give them tools to better manage their own stress and energy levels, so they can be present with their students and show up at a fuller capacity to lead and support.
