Update Sept 7, 9.13am: A spokesperson said, “The Caines’ Brothers and Five Star Barbershop 2018 Back to School Extravaganza can only be classified as a resounding success with 423 boys and girls receiving hair care services and over 800 school supply items were handed out. This included book bags, gym bags, and lunch kits. The theme for this years’ extravaganza was Success Never Sleeps and the goal was to show our children that in order to be their best, they must be focused, dedicated and committed.

“This year we would like to thank the Bermuda Zoological Society for giving each child one year free membership to the Bermuda Aquarium and Zoo, Coral Dental for providing free dental screenings, the Bermuda Youth Library for signing up students for library cards and Bermuda’s Anti-Cyber Bullying Campaign for visiting the event. We would like to acknowledge and thank our title sponsors, Sun Life Financial International and Hiscox. We would also like to acknowledge our other sponsors Marsh and McLennan, Sunshine Company, Titan Express, Brother Richie, Casual Footwear, and John Barritt and Sons.

“This event would not be a success without the 80 volunteers who gave their time and talents to make the event a success. We are very thankful for your labor of love. A special mention goes out to the barbers and hair braiders who started at 8:00am and three volunteers finished braiding the last three girls’ hair at 6:45pm that evening. Your community is blessed to have you and we are forever grateful for your hard work.

“We look forward to making this event even more meaningful to our community next year.”
