Another Bermuda politician has had one of her social media accounts copied.

There is a fake Facebook account of OBA MP Patricia Gordon-Pamplin. The false profile has just eight followers while the real account has more than 700 friends.

Ms Gordon-Pamplin told Bernews, “I have recently received several notifications that existing ‘friends’ have been getting new ‘friend requests’ from me. I have barely been active on Facebook as I have found the particular medium to be toxic and not contributing to a positive discourse among our people.”

She added she has no control over whether others set up false profiles for “nefarious purposes.”

Other politicians who have had fake social media accounts pop up in their names include Premier David Burt, Minister Lovitta Foggo and Minister Wayne Caines, and and the police have urged people to “be vigilant regarding deceptive social media accounts impersonating Government officials,” with some of the fake accounts being used to attempt to solicit money from people.

This is not just targeted at politicians. Everyday people get their Facebook profiles impersonated. The perpetrator tries to connect with the friends and extract money from them.

Yep. If the oldest profession is prostitution, the second-oldest is scamming people.
