October 1, 2018

The PLP Women’s Caucus hosted a Women’s forum called ‘Women in Politics’ on Saturday, with Caucus Chair Alexa Lightbourne saying it was an “overwhelming success.”

Moderated by Ms Lightbourne and Senator Crystal Caesar, the forum featured presentations from former Premier Dame Jennifer Smith, Minister for Government Affairs Lovitta Foggo, Junior Minister for Disability Affairs Tinee Furbert, St George’s North MP Renee Ming and a special presentation from Centre Against Abuse Executive Director Laurie Shiell-Smith.

“This event was an overwhelming success. The mission of the Women’s Caucus is to educate, empower and advocate women’s issues and this forum succeed in meeting those objectives,” said Caucus Chair Alexa Lightbourne.

“While we initially wanted to host this intimate forum to accommodate 40 persons, we were overwhelmed with a room of nearly 70 diverse women engaged in learning and dialogue on key issues.

“It was awesome to be in the room where we could experience this – we gained so much from the perspectives of the presenters and we left truly enriched.

“This forum is just the beginning, we will ensure that it is followed up with a release of the Q&A’s raised and continue the positive momentum established. We are excited to continue the work started!”

“The PLP Women’s Caucus was formed in 2017; this is the 2nd public forum put on by the Caucus,” the PLP noted.

“The Party will also be holding its Annual Delegates Conference from October 24-26 which begins with an opening night address from the Party Leader and Premier David Burt. This address, open to the public, will be held at St. Paul’s Centennial Hall.”

Did Wayne Caines turn up looking for titty milk?

  2. question says:

Will the Minister of national Security offer a perspective on the issue of harassment of women in the workplace? By customers in shops who film themselves harassing young girls behind the counter, that kind of thing?

  3. watching says:

Well done ladies. The PLP has always had strong women holding up the party. Much of the work done behind the scenes is due to these women!

    • Well done ladies says:

Are you ladies releasing a communique on how some members of parliament debase women?

The women of Bermuda are wondering why you are all strangely silent on this behavior.

      Do you ladies condone this?

      Captain Crunch comes to mind.

      Sure….

  4. PLP All the Way See says:

so between the Senate and House of Assembly only 5 women.

and the PLP is representative of the “majority” of Bermuda right.

    What a joke.

Premier Burt, what will your Legacy be?

    • watching says:

There are 2 women in the Senate,
and in the House there are 4 women, so your math is slightly off.

I will say this though, many women don’t put themselves forward due to the work/life balance which is often difficult to achieve. But the PLP has many women in the trenches, working on behalf of the party.

Change doesn’t only come from elected officials. Much work can be done by the unelected.

Well done, Alexa, I’m so proud of you!

So where is Renee Webb? She has done more in politics than all of the above.
