Bermuda Bowling Team Heading To China

Bermuda’s National Men’s Bowling team are set to leave the island for the World Tenpin Bowling Championships being held in Hong Kong, China, The Quadrennial event which counts as a major on the World Bowling Tour runs from November 23rd to December 6th 2018.

The team of Lamar Richardson, Damien Matthews, Rickai Binns, David Maycock, Akeem Talbot, Dennis Joell, Steven Riley and Calvin Basden will be up against the best bowlers in the world from 55 countries.

The team will complete for Gold, Silver and Bronze in Singles, Doubles, Trios, Team event, All events and The Masters event.

Each event consist of a total of six qualifying games to determine the top four who will than bowl head to head matches for gold, silver and bronze. The most prestigious event will be the team event which was won by Korea at the last world Championships.

The team will be hoping to add to their success after their Silver Medal win this past summer at the CAC Games in Colombia.

Bermuda last competed at the World Championships at the 2014 event in Abu Dhabi UAE and has a best showing of 4th place in the team event at the 1987 Championships in Helsinki Finland.

All members of the team have a wealth of International experience having represented Bermuda in various International events in the past. Matthews, Maycock & Binns bought home a Silver Medal at this year CAC games in the Men’s Trio’s event.

Talbot and Joell are making their World Championships debut, while the other members where apart of Team Bermuda at the 2003 event in Kula Lumpur Malaysia and the 2014 even in Abu Dhabi.
