RFI: Fare & Mobile Ticketing For Public Transport

November 5, 2018

The Government has issued a Request for Information [RFI] for an “innovative new Automated Fare Media and Mobile Ticketing Solution for its Public Transport system.”

The announcement said, “The ultimate goal of which is to improve the efficiencies of the ticketing process for both local and overseas users of the public transport system.

“Equally important is the reduction in the need for cash, tokens and tickets, by making use of ‘Smartcards’, Debit\Credit Cards, including ‘Smartphone’ based applications on its Public Buses and Ferries.

“The solution is to allow for the maximum flexibility in the purchase/payment of Fare Media and provide much needed convenience in the presentation and validation of Fare Media ‘tickets.’

“As we intend to utilize the solution for both the local and international users of the Bermuda Public Transportation system, the automated ticketing solution should be cloud-based providing back-end administration functions [reporting, data analysis, etc.] The Mobile segment of the ticketing solution must be accessible on both Android and iOS platforms.”

The Request for information/proposals/tenders was released on October 31st and the deadline for submission is Friday, November 30th.

  1. inna says:

First things first, when is the ferry terminal going to accept credit/debit cards as a form of payment?!?!

  2. wondering says:

    Oyster Cards please!!!

  3. Wow!!! says:

They need to work on getting the schedule together before investing in this. I’m inclined to believe ticketing isn’t the biggest issue being faced by this department.

  4. question says:

This would be on the theoretical basis that the prospective rider can actually find a bus that hasn’t been cancelled, presumably.

  5. Hurricane says:

On the surface, this sounds so backward. I see bus cancellations everyday and often hear of adjustments to the ferry schedule for one reason or another and their looking to improve ticketing. Someone please make me understand.

  6. wahoo says:

Privatize and make it someone else’s problem.

  7. Me says:

Hey keeping things real i cant help feel cheated by this government the 400 thousand of our hard earned tax dollars being wasted in court fighting equality oh heck and the gift of 1 million plus to dr brown could have gotten us a state of the art bus and ticketing system this is a BIG indicator of a government GONE WRONG alteady

  8. gustav says:
